Size of the dog

The first factor that determines whether your dog needs extra protection against the cold is the size of the dog. A smaller dog gets cold more quickly and will therefore need a dog coat sooner than a larger one. Among smaller breeds, there are also some that have very short coats. It’s best to put a coat on these dogs when the temperature drops below 10 degrees.

Sufficient undercoat?

Dogs that have little to no undercoat can definitely benefit from a dog coat as well. And these don’t necessarily have to be small dogs. There are larger dogs that have very little undercoat, and therefore almost no insulation against the cold. Make sure they stay warm during your daily walk and pamper them with a cozy dog coat!

Age of the dog

You probably know a grandmother or mother whose life goal seems to be to keep you warm. No matter the weather, they would prefer to put an extra sweater on you. They don't do this to annoy you; they are genuinely concerned because they feel cold themselves. This is related to age. Just like humans, older dogs also feel the cold more quickly. So, an older dog may also need a coat, especially on the coldest days.

Always dry thoroughly

If you wash your dog yourself, always make sure he is thoroughly dried before going outside in the cold. This is important even if he is wearing a coat. A dry dog is a happy dog! Additionally, during the cold days, the lack of daylight is something you should consider. Make sure your dog is always visible when you go outside.
